I am a South Hampton, NH based wood artist and photographer. My works have been exhibited and won awards at the New Canaan Art Society, Greenwich Art Society and Old Greenwich Art Society. My furniture graces fine homes from Brooklin, Maine to New York City.

I create one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture in collaboration with my clients. This website can be viewed as a gallery for examples of my work. If you enjoy my style or see something you like please contact me to see if it's available or to commission a similar piece at bill@billhowewoodworking.com.

I took up woodworking 35 years ago and specialize in custom tables and sideboards using a mixed selection of exotic hardwoods. I began turning bowls more than 20 years ago and much of my work includes inlays of semi-precious stone such as turquoise, lapis lazuli, and jade. The techniques I use to produce the inlay are entirely self-taught and I am continually refining and modifying these techniques to adapt to different materials.

I create furniture as unique custom pieces designed for a specific location and use.  While each piece may serve a utilitarian function it also holds the handcrafted essence of a work of art. The goal is to create a work celebrating the true natural beauty of the wood in a form both aesthetically effective and in harmony with its purpose and place.

I take cues from the natural form of the wood to determine the style of his pieces. The results are unique, functional works of art. One of my favorite features in my pieces is turquoise inlay. Due to its natural variations of color, it offers a fascinating visual counterpoint to the inherent grain in the wood.
